An American Holocaust: The Story of Lataine's Ring by Kerry L Barger
This is a very tragic event that took place in New London, Texas on March 18, 1937. A school with many students, parents, teachers and administrators blew up from a natural gas leak and took the lives of over 300 people. It was a time in Texas when oil was huge and that included natural gas in the drilling.
The story of Lataine and her beautiful gold ring are just a part of this novel. There was such a loss of lives, especially young children's lives, that having this one part to refer to, makes the history so much more compelling.
The author is a descendant of Lataine's and felt the need to remind people about the worries of things even in these times and to cherish everyone that you can.
