Whispers of Innocence by Michael Davis & Candace Morehouse

This ebook was sent to me by Romance Junkies for review.

Drake works for the government taking down large drug kings in Mexico. While working as a witness protector, his family is attacked by drug kings and he loses his wife, Kelly, and experiences the injury of his son, Eddie.

He is devastated and decides that he wants to move back to his hometown of Alta Vista and seek treatment for his son that is not offered by any regular doctor. The treatment is offered by the COG camp (Children of God) and is considered risky.

At this point, we are getting to know Micki (Michaela), who grew up in the COG camp, but escaped and became a journalist. Her mission in returning to Alta Vista is to learn more about all of the drugs being dealt and how come there are so many dealers that are constantly going in and out of the same jail door.

As these two characters get involved with each other and learn of each others' histories, you can actually feel the chemistry between the two. There is a lot of history between the two that comes together at the end and the ride to learn it is worth the time.

The characters are very well fleshed and the story is a little dragged at the beginning, but knowing the history of the two makes the end all that much better.
