Mina and her best friend Lucy are taking some time to gather themselves before they both get married. They are spending time in Whitby with Mina's mother and enjoying the ease of a summer vacation.
Mina will be marrying her love since childhood, Jonathan Harker. They both grew up as orphans and are both not of means.
Lucy, on the other hand, has grown up with wealth and has the means and the beauty to have invoked many gentlemen to want to betroth her. She has made her decision from the 3 that have proposed.
While vacationing in Whitby, Mina becomes concerned about Jonathan, who has been sent to do business with a Count Dracula in Transylvania. Mina does not hear from him as often as normal.

The truth is revealed when Mina is told that Jonathan is at a hospital in Transylvania and is delirious and close to the end.
The story from here is intense and you actually feel the tug-of-war going on inside Mina for her love and loyalty between two men who are so far removed from each other.
This is a good story and you definitely feel the struggle that she feels about these two very different individuals.
