This is not normally a genre that interests me. I really liked the start of the book. Didn't feel the need to know about what happened before the beginning of the book, the characters were interesting with enough references to what compelled them from the past. There were mentions of the things that had gone on before and they were inserted very nicely without being really involved.
Rose & Lissa are best friends with different backgrounds. Rose is a dhampir (sort of human) and Lissa is a royal Moroi. These two races depend on each other to survive, with the dhampir race watching over the Moroi race.
Rose will be Lissa's guardian and is doing a very good job so far. Will have to see what happens in the upcoming books, but I believe that Rose will turn out to be one of the best, as her absolute love for Lissa is so strong.
Book is definitely written for a younger audience, but this one is so much better than others that I have tried to read, and could not get into.
